Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. Decker's military family lived in Louisiana when she was just nine years old. She won a talent competition with an original rendition of Patsy's I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart. At the age of 15, Decker lived in Georgia. She was beginning to compose songs and she was making regular visits in Nashville. Looking for an agreement, Decker visited music publishing houses and record labels. At the age of 17, she gained the attention of a representative of independent label Big Yellow Dog Records who began shopping her songs to labels and artists. The demos of Decker were sent through to L.A. Reid by Mercury Records President David Massey, who was then in charge of Island/Def Jam. Reid then signed Decker to a recording contract. Then, in August of 2009 Decker made her debut self-titled album, titled Jessie James. Jessie James enjoyed a modest level of success, and Wanted reached the Top 40 on the Singles Charts. But while Decker had always considered herself a country artist the album was made and promoted with a pop audience in the back of her mind. After two more singles from the album stiffed Decker confronted label management for more control over her music, and her next single Boys in the Summer was an album that was more country-oriented. Decker released her second album under two different titles: Sweet American Dreams or Daughter of a Gypsy. Mercury shelved it after the first three singles fell in the country charts. Decker then was let go from the contract.
